When the Eastern Eagles hit the gridiron this fall, they will see that their team has changed quite a bit in the last year. Many changes have occurred but the most notable change is that they now display a new head coach. Following last season’s 2nd place finish in the TVC-Hocking, Coach Tipton decided to call it a quits and retire. Replacing him on the sideline will be Dave Tennant who was an assistant coach at Riley High School in West Virginia last year.

Changing head coaches was only the beginning of the changes for Eastern. There will be much turnover as only three players on their current roster started a game last season and the current roster displays only one senior. Being brand new to Eastern and having such a young team means starting from scratch for Coach Tennant and his Eastern players. “The bulk of the team is sophomores and freshmen, we’re going to have to rely on them” said Tennant. He also went on to add, “They’re an athletic bunch…. Positions are wide open.”

Tennant acknowledges that the team is in its beginning stages right now. He is still in the process of trying to figure out player’s names and what positions fit them properly. Among the players he knows well, he said to watch out for lineman Tyler Kline and split-end/cornerback Max Carnahan to have good seasons. Tennant is now in the process of putting together a staff and a strategy. He plans on installing a similar system to what Eastern played last year and plans on bringing hard-nosed football to the Eagles. In a season of change, it will be interesting to see where the Eastern Eagles pick up following their successful 2010 campaign.
