Coming off a disappointing season, the Federal Hocking Lancers are looking to have more success in 2011. After finishing in the cellar of the TVC-Hocking with a 1-9 record and being shutout three times, the Lancers are hoping first year head coach Doug Miller can turn things around this year. In order to have a more successful 2011 campaign, the Lancers will need to be more consistent and in better shape according to Miller.

“We only have 30 guys on the roster, so we’re going to have guys playing both ways,” said Miller.  “You should never lose a game because you’re tired and we’re making sure that doesn’t happen here.” Miller also has his player’s lifting three days a week in order to improve the team’s strength. “I’m not judging the season on wins and losses. We’re teaching work ethic and commitment,” said Miller. “The wins will come but you’ve got to earn it.”

Coach Miller said he is not alone in the rebuilding process as his team looks to be more competitive in the talented TVC-Hocking. “I’ve got great coaches helping me.” But it’s up to the players to perform on the field and make the plays necessary to win. Federal Hocking lost starting quarterback Ryan Rex to graduation and will be relying on Peyton Silva and Kyle Jackson to help turn things around this season. But the most important position on the field is still up in the air.

“We have guys battling for the quarterback spot and we’ll just see what happens there,” stated Miller. The Lancers will have to battle on the field this year if they are to improve in Miller’s first year running the show.
