Meigs Marauders Preview

Last year, Meigs (3-7, 0-5) wanted to build off four straight victories that ended the 2009 campaign. This year, they’ll try to build anything. The 2010 season started with plenty of promise as the Marauders took three of their first five. But they quickly ran into the brick wall that is conference play, dropping their last five games to go winless in TVC-Ohio play.  It’s an issue that must be solved if they want to pull themselves back into conference contention.

It won’t be an easy task, considering the loss of senior quarterback Cameron Bolin. But Coach Mike Chauncey is up to the task. “Cameron did a lot for our football team, but we have about five guys that have experience and are now seniors. We feel like that nucleus can provide leadership for us,” he said. That leadership will be needed on a young squad. Seniors Jeffrey Roush and Zach Sayre earned All-District Honors last season, and will look to spark the offense while Dillon Boyer tries to fill the void under center. “We really don’t have that one specific kid that’s going to be a standout,” Chauncey said.

It will be a total team effort if Meigs wants to challenge for the league crown this year. They’ll be able to put points on the board and finish strong out-of-conference if the offense finds its niche early on, but it’s the second half of the year that will ultimately determine the Marauders’ fate.

Key Losses:

Cameron Bolin QB/CB   All-TVC, All-District

Colton Stewart TE/DE   All-TVC

Key Returnees:

Jeffrey Roush  RB Senior  1st Team All-District

Zach Sayre  WR Senior  All-District honorable mention

Dillon Boyer  QB Junior

Who to Look Forward To:

Boyer has playing experience, but could still have a learning curve picking up Chauncey’s playbook full-time. Look for Meigs to pound the running game early, with Roush getting big yards in the first few weeks.
