The State Fire Marshal says the Ross County Sheriff's Office is going to be giving away smoke alarms.

Project SAFE will also provide free smoke alarm evaluations for every resident within Ross County who lives outside the Chillicothe city limits.

If the evaluations determine batteries or alarms are needed, they will be provided and installed at no cost.

The program is being offered by the Sheriff's Office and the Division of State Fire Marshal.

An announcement today says it's hoped the partnership will save lives.

Smoke alarms can double the chances of a person of escaping a night time fire.
