Sunpower Incorporated opened a new office at the State Side Technology Park in Athens today.

Sunpower held a ribbon cutting and grand opening to show off the new $3 million facility. The company has been growing and executives expect the trend to continue, because of its work for NASA. Sunpower has doubled in size during the past four years and now employees about 90 workers.

U.S. Representative Bill Johnson offered remarks at the ceremony. He noted a nearly 10 percent unemployment rate and said Athens needs more jobs.

Sunpower makes electric generators, medical devices, and nuclear material detection devices, using Stirling engines.
