Ohio University's president will give his "State of the University" speech on Thursday.

Roderick McDavis sent an e-mail to O.U. faculty and staff today to mark the first day of classes.

He says he will make the speech during the faculty and staff convocation at 3 p.m. in the Margaret M. Walter Hall Rotunda on the Athens campus.

McDavis says, "As a community, it is important for us to come together at the beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year to celebrate the past and look to the future."

The future holds a very different academic calendar, as this is the last year Ohio University will be on the quarter system.

The conversion from quarters to semesters may be addressed in McDavis' speech.

The address will be streamed live on woub.org for those who can't attend.
