The chairman of an Ohio Senate committee considering a Republican-drawn congressional map says he expects the panel to vote on the map Wednesday.
If the map is approved by the committee, the entire Senate could vote on it later Wednesday.
The committee heard testimony from the map's sponsor Tuesday, and Senate Democrats on the panel criticized the cartography of the GOP proposal.
Critics say it was drawn to protect Republicans' majority in Ohio's congressional delegation.
Ohio House Republicans have defended the map, saying it complies with all constitutional and demographic mandates. The GOP-controlled House passed the map last week.
Senate Democrats had introduced their own map Monday, saying it splits communities fewer times than the GOP map and contains more competitive districts.
