Sections of the catwalk on Ohio University's Athens campus are closed because of structural concerns.
According to a university news release, the sections of catwalk on South Green were closed yesterday.
"The safety of our residents remains one of the paramount concerns of our office, and upon receiving preliminary reports that sections of the catwalk have deteriorated faster than anticipated and are now in need of repairs, we have decided that closing them is the appropriate action," said Christine Sheets, executive director of Residential Housing.
Three areas are closed.
The are: the catwalks directly adjacent to Cady, Foster and Brough Houses, the catwalks directly adjacent to Dougan and True Houses, and he catwalks directly adjacent to Armbruster, Atkinson and Smith Houses.
Sheets says work to fix the sections of catwalk will begin immediately, but it will take 10 to 12 months to complete.
"We appreciate the patience and understanding of the campus community while this work is being completed," says Sheets.
