An Athens County woman has been found not competent to stand trial in the death of her four-year-old step-daughter.

That's according to Sheriff Pat Kelly.

Ashley Young, 25, of The Plains appeared in court this morning.

She is charged with murder, aggravated murder, child endangering, tampering with evidence and attempted aggravated possession of drugs.

Young is accused of beating Kaylen Young to death in May.

Kelly says Ashley Young is not competent to stand trial at this time, but she may become competent after counseling and treatment.

The autopsy report indicates Kaylen Young's death was caused by blunt force impact to her head.

The Franklin Country coroner noted several areas of the head, brain and skull suffered damage.

Kaylen Young died on May 25th, just five days before her fifth birthday.
