Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly announced today that his office will participate in the "A Child is Missing Alert Program".

The federal program assists law enforcement in locating missing children and elderly people that may suffer from Alzheimer's or dementia.

Kelly says the program is necessary because it helps law enforcement on a national level.

"We have a few programs like project lifesaver that we use locally.  But when you have a child, like last summer we had a child leave the area and I believe we found her in Missouri, when you have that kind of connection and that kind of support, then it works as another tool for us," says Kelly.

The program is financially supported by corporate donations, as well as state and federal funding and is provided at no cost to law enforcement.
