After finishing last season with only four victories, the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes have already tallied their ninth win through thirteen games this season against the Alexander Spartans.

Angela Meade got the ball rolling for the Lady Bucks early on in the first quarter and never looked back. Meade kept the offense running smoothly by getting all of her teammates involved while scoring eight points in the first quarter alone. Not only was their offense almost unstoppable, Nelsonville-York took momentum using the trap defense and the Spartans failed to make changes. The Lady Bucks had eight steals by the end of the first.

Fouls became problematic for Alexander as Kaylee Koker fouled out two minutes into the second quarter. In Koker’s absence, Allyson Malone stepped up and gave the Spartans hope on offense, but they could not hold onto the ball as the Lady Bucks were able to nab eleven steals through two quarters. Jennah Addis contributed eleven points going into the half, making the lead 39-23.

The second half started off on a bad note for Nelsonville-York as they matched their turnover count from the first half in the first two minutes. The Lady Bucks quickly turned things around and went on an 18-1 run through the quarter and ended the third with a 22-8 score.

The Spartans’ foul troubles continued through to the end of the game as they had to finish with four players on the court. The Lady Bucks had three players scoring in double-digits as Addis finished with 18, Meade had 14, and Shelby True racked up 12. Nelsonville-York stole the ball 22 times on a stellar defensive performance overall for the team. Every Lady Buckeye gained playing experience in this blowout victory, something that may become very important when playoff time comes around.

Malone finished with ten points and Reanna Putnam added seven for the Spartans as they fall to 0-13 on the season (0-5 TVC).

Nelsonville-York improves to 9-4 overall (2-3 TVC). Their next challenge is against Trimble on the 14th.
