Ohio dropped its third consecutive game Sunday at home against Miami (OH) 67-47.
After taking an early 4-0 lead, Ohio allowed the Redhawks to go on a 25-5 run and fell behind early in the first half. The Bobcats would never reduce the lead to less than 12.
“We did not come out in the first half ready to go,” Ohio head coach Semeka Randall said following the loss. “We usually compete from start to finish, and we didn’t do that today.”
Ohio appeared fatigued and frustrated as the game progressed. Seven players played the majority of the team’s minutes, as Ohio continues to miss some of its key players out with injury.
Juniors Porsha Harris and Ashley Fowler were both inactive today after suffering injuries against Buffalo and Bowling Green, respectively.
“When you’re playing with numbers, you mentally just gotta be locked into it from start to finish,” Randall said. “I’m not into making excuses. We have to figure out a way to play under these conditions.”
Senior guard/forward Tenishia Benson lead the team with 14 points while spending a lot of time playing out of position at the point guard spot.
“It’s difficult, and we’re slowly making adjustments, [but] you’re telling the team to make an adjustment in two days,” Benson said.
Randall is temporarily granting point guard duties to Benson along with freshman and sophomore guards Mariah Byard and Erin Bailes in her “point guard by committee” system.
Bailes, who played a career high 33 minutes in the loss to Miami, said after the game, “We just have to find ourselves. It’s tough going from different position to different position.”
The Bobcats’ (8-10, 1-3 MAC) next opportunity find themselves and snap their losing streak is Thursday against Akron (8-10, 2-2 MAC) at home.
