The Meigs Marauders picked up their second win of the season in a big way, knocking off the Alexander Spartans in the first round of the sectional playoffs 61-45.

The Marauders ate away at the Spartans inside with Jesse Smith and Cody Mattox owning the paint. Then duo recorded 29 points and tallied 13 rebounds taking advantage of their height advantage.

After one, Meigs led Alexander 12-4. Then in the second quarter, the Marauders exploded, dropping 21 points. Dillon Boyer, who hit the game-winner in Meigs first victory over the Sparans, drained three straight three-pointers, nine of his 15 points. The big burst for Meigs gave them a 18-point lead at halftime.

Alex came out firing in the third, led by freshman point guard Jordan Mosley. Mosley led the Spartans with 15 points and was a big reason the Spartans were able to cut the lead to 11 at the start of the fourth quarter.

But in the end Smith and Mattox were too much for the Spartans to handle, each adding four points in the final period.

Alex struggled shooting just 26 percent from the floor and received minimal production from their leading scorers on the season Jake Grey (three points) and Braden Jones (four points.)

Meigs (2-18) advances to face the Wellston Rockets on Saturday at Athens High School.

As for the Spartans (4-17,) Coach Blaine Gabriel will have Mosley and Jones returning next season along with a young returning roster as they look to possibly  make a run at a TVC title.
