West Virginia University at Parkersburg and American Electric Power have developed an apprenticeship program that would convert job training into college-level credits.

WVU Parkersburg will offer AEP workers the chance to attain associate's degrees in occupational development and eventually earn bachelor's degrees.

WVU Parkersburg senior vice president for academic affairs Rhonda Tracy says leadership and teamwork are incorporated into the program's studies. The courses are offered in flexible and online formats so AEP workers can complete classes during their employment.

The university and company announced the signing of an articulation agreement Thursday.
