The Ohio University Innovation Center will hold a three-day entrepreneur event aimed at helping launch businesses in Southeast Ohio.

The Start Up Weekend program is designed for developers, artists, graphic designers and other creative people to gather for a weekend of company creation.

Innovation Center Director Jennifer Simon says the hope is during the event, ideas can grow to become businesses.

"The idea is to create additional businesses in our area and to give students an opportunity to have and others an opportunity to really be creative and to think their ideas through and to think about how they can move from an idea to a business and you don't have to come with an idea, but if you have any sort of skills," said Simon.  "Engineers, artists, graphic designer, software development kind of people they can come together and be part of this and help create some companies in our region and help create new opportunities and skills for those that are participating."

Simon says for this to be a successful event they will need a diverse pool of talented people.

That is probably number one factor we need marketing folks, [Ohio University] College of Business — any level within College of Business people to show up and again without the idea you don't have anything, but with the idea and group of people that is really going to make the success," said Simon.

Simon says only 65 people will able able to participate in the Start Up Weekend.

The event takes place April 20-22 in Athens.
