Ohio centerfielder Ethan Newton has been named the MAC East Player of the Week. As Ohio's leadoff hitter, Newton batted .526, going 10-for-19 at the plate, with four runs scored and three RBIs last week. Newton also extended his hitting streak to a season-best 13 games. The centerfielder had six steals last week and has moved into seventh place on Ohio's all time steals list. Newton led Ohio to a 2-2 record last week, with two wins against Ball State.

Ohio's left-handed ace, Brent Choban, was also honored by the MAC East with a nomination for MAC East Pitcher of the Week. Choban went the distance, pitching a one run shutout and recording five strikeouts to defeat Ball State 6-1 last Friday. It was Choban's fifth win and second shutout of the season. Choban has been a workhorse for Ohio, pitching until at least the sixth inning in every start this year.

Ohio plays Youngstown State today at 3 and later this week Buffalo comes to visit Ohio for a three game weekend series at Bob Wren Stadium.
