Ohio gas prices are hovering about 40 cents below the record highs reached a year ago.

The state's average price for regular gas is $3.76 a gallon in Monday's survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express. That's up 2 cents compared with the average a week ago.

Drivers were paying more than $4 a gallon at this time last year after prices hit record highs.

Crude oil prices have fallen in the past week amid signs that oil demand may be weaker than previously expected. A slowdown in U.S. hiring has dampened expectations of stronger economic growth and consumption of fuel and energy.

Nationally, the average gas price slipped 4 cents to $3.78 this week.
