The Federal Hocking Lancers beat the Nelsonville York Buckeyes 3-0 on Saturday to win the sectional championship today thanks to great pitching, key hitting and a little luck.

It was the Buckeyes who started out hot early, leading off with a base hit. After that they were cooled off by the Lancers senior pitcher Wesley Dixon.

Dixon recorded six strikeouts in the first two innings, including four straight.

The Lancers bats also started off hot early, but they converted their hits into runs. James Lackey led off with a single, and was later brought in by Terrence Mayle to give Federal Hocking a 1-0 lead.

In the second inning the Lancers kept the pressure on, loading the bases with 2 outs.

Buckeye pitcher Nathan Dean threw a wild pitch over the catcher’s head and Dixon took advantage of it scoring from third, giving the Lancers a 2-0 lead and a little cushion.

After that it was all Dixon. He was able to force the Buckeye hitters into groundouts, pop-flies, and more strike outs.

The closest Nelsonville York got was when Dean reached third base in the fourth inning. After a groundball to the shortstop, Dean was caught in a run-down and eventually was tagged out.

The Lancers added more insurance in the 6th making it 3-0, and Dixon finished them off from there. He finished with 8 strikeouts and allowed 0 runs on 3 hits in the complete game victory.

The Lancers will take on the winner of Wheelersburg and Portsmouth.
