The current director of the Athens County Economic Development Council (ACEDC) is resigning from his position to accept a new one with the Office of U.S. Senator Rob Portman.

Todd Shelton will serve as the Southeast Ohio District Representative after his resignation with ACEDC is effective June 1.

Athens City Mayor Paul Wiehl says Shelton has acted as a facilitator for the county's economic successes.

"We are disappointed that Todd is leaving.  We wish him well," said Wiehl in a news release announcing Shelton's departure. "We will miss his services, but Southeast Ohio will be a better place as Todd continues to work on economic development in his new position as Southeast Ohio District Representativefor U.S. Senator Rob Portman."

During his tenure, Shelton provided assistance to Global Cooling, Incorporated which helped retain 15 jobs and will create 75 more over the next three years in Athens County.

He also helped secure funding to purchase software for a local business expansion initiative, and connected local businesses with community and state resources for growth opportunities.

In his resignation letter, Shelton says he has enjoyed working with ACEDC and believes the partnership of the many entities within Athens County can move forward with the mission of creating quality jobs.

Marketing and Communications Coordinator Sara Marrs will continue the ACEDC's efforts while a search for a new director takes place.
