A familiar face will lead Ohio University's office of student affairs following Vice President Kent Smith's departure.

OU President Roderick McDavis announced Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi will assume the role starting in June.

Lombardi has been appointed as Interim Vice President.

McDavis says Lombardi must complete his doctoral degree in order to take the full job as V.P.

His degree is expected in the fall.

"I am honored to continue my service to Ohio University in this new role.  I have big shoes to fill, and I will work hard every day on behalf of my division colleagues to provide exemplary programs and services to Ohio University students," wrote Lombardi in a statement to WOUB News.

Two other finalists were being considered for the position as well.
