The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources says applications are being accepted for a special deer hunt at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.

Officials say the special resident-only, controlled hunt is scheduled for Oct. 19 and 20 at the site in Green Bank.

Submitting an application enters a hunter in a drawing for a maximum of two days on the site. Applications must be received on or before Aug. 3.

The maximum bag limit during the hunt is one antlerless deer per day. But an on-site lottery will be held each day of the hunt that will allow five hunters to hunt a deer of either sex.

Participating hunters must have a West Virginia hunting license or be exempt from having to purchase a license.
