Governor John Kasich says President Barack Obama has declared a federal emergency in Ohio because of severe weather and extensive power outages across state.
Kasich says the emergency declaration announced Saturday night will allow the government to provide direct assistance such as generators and water. He says he appreciates the quick response and that supplies should start arriving soon.
More than 900,000 Ohio residents are faced the heat wave without power in the aftermath of severe storms that struck with powerful, damaging winds.
The governor has declared a state of emergency and called out the National Guard.
