A McConnelsville man is in custody after an attempted bank robbery over the weekend in Amesville.

Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly says one of the Community Bank employees noticed Carl Davis, 25, crouched in a closet next to the teller's station when she reported to work Saturday around 8 a.m.

The employee and another worker left the bank and yelled for help from members of the Amesville Fire Department, who were preparing a festival nearby.

Kelly says Davis left the bank behind the employees and was later found in the woods.

He has been charged with attempted robbery and is being held at the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail.

Kelly says another suspect is wanted for being an accomplice in the robbery.

Officers say the pair entered the bank by cutting a hole in the ceiling from an unoccupied apartment over the bank.
