City Of Athens Planning Street Improvement Project

Motorists around Athens are asked to avoid several street areas during the month of August as the city takes on a street improvement project.

According to Andy Stone, city engineer and director public works, the project will focus on 13 street areas beginning on the city's west side August 6.

The project runs through August 24, with streets on the east side among the last to be paved.

The affected areas include:

Street/Area
Raymond from Clark to Second – August 6
Currier from #34 to end – August 7
Fairview from Woodward to end – August 8
Woodward from Highland to N. Congress – August 9
Fort from Grosvenor to N. Congress – August 10
Grosvenor from Fort to Madison – August 16
Bolleana Place from Morris to Grant – August 17
University Terrace from Park Place to E. Union – Augusht 20
Lamar from Canterbury to dead end – August 21
Canterbury from Richland to Lamar – August 22
Utah from E. State to Hillcrest – August 23
Jacobs from Strathmore to Utah – August 23
Dorr Lane from Columbus to bottom of hill – August 24
 
Milling of several of the listed streets will begin a few days in advance of the paving portion of the project.
 
Stone says traffic in the areas will be down to one lane and parking on the street will not be allowed during the scheduled work.
