Stuart’s Opera House will welcome The Hackensaw Boys this Friday, marking the second installment of this year’s Free Summer Concert Series.

This year, the concerts have been scheduled to coincide with Final Fridays, the monthly art gallery hop on Nelsonville’s historic Public Square.

“There’s a whole lot of great art and vendors to see,” said Stuart’s Opera House Marketing and Promotions Director Brian Koscho. “And it’s a great opportunity to enjoy a night of music for free out on the Square.”

Hailing from Charlottesville, Va., The Hackensaw Boys have been touring the country for more than decade. Formed in 1999, the band has amassed a large following of roots and music fans with their original sound and diverse body of work.

Though the band is firmly rooted in old-time string band music, rock & roll and country are also major influences, which has resulted in an upbeat, eclectic sound, attracting fans from outside the Americana-revivalist scene.

In addition to backing up country legend Charlie Louvin on a nationwide tour in 2003, the band was featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition in 2005 and were recently nominated for the Independent Country Music Awards’ “Best Bluegrass Band, Duo or Group” category.

Friday’s show, which includes a beer garden, will take place in the Stuart’s parking lot at 7:30 p.m. In the event of rain, the performance will be moved inside the opera house.

Next month’s concert will feature The Spikedrivers on Friday, Aug. 31. For more information, visit www.stuartsoperahouse.org.
