Ohio University plans to use a vacant building on Court Street for office space and apartment rentals.

According to a release, OU entered into a lease with property owner Carolyn Gilmore for the old Woolworth building, located at 31 South Court Street.

OU took possession of the building on Monday.

The 5-year lease includes office space on the lower and first floors.

The second floor is made up of 10 rental units.

The university plans to use income from the rentals to support the building and the academic offices on the lower levels.

Some of the first to move into the building will be staff from Lindley Hall, while that 95-year-old building undergoes a renovation.

Those offices are expected to be moved to the Court Street location by the end of fall semester.
