A Marietta Municipal Court judge set bond at $500,000 for a Newport man who is connected to a four-year-old murder case.

Mark Stevens, 48, had an initial court appearance Thursday morning.

Stevens previously confessed to being at Patrick Arnold's Bells Run Road home at the time Arnold was shot.

Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks says detectives learned through an informant that Stevens had admitted to being involved in Arnold's murder.

Arnold was found on his porch, dead of a single gunshot wound to the chest on July 24, 2008.

Mincks says Stevens later told investigators information only the killer would know.

A preliminary hearing for Stevens is set for August 6 at 1:30 p.m. in municipal court.

He is currently being held at the Washington County jail.
