Voters in the the Green Local School District in Scioto County have rejected a tax levy.

Tuesday's special election vote was 562 to 506.

It was a 7 mill proposal that would have generated $475,000 a year in new revenue.

The levy was also defeated in May.

Voters in the latest Ohio school district to fall into fiscal emergency have also rejected a tax levy, making it one of several districts around the state facing new cuts after tax issues failed in special elections.

Unofficial results in Butler and Warren counties showed Monroe Schools' levy losing by 80 votes.

The district along Interstate 75 in southwest Ohio was declared in fiscal emergency in May because of operating deficit of $2.2 million and a bond retirement debt of $3.2 million.

Monroe officials have said they will go to voters again in November, while continuing to make cuts in staff and programs. There were about 60 local issues in 35 counties on Tuesday's special election ballots.

Most of the issues were school levies.

There were rejections in several other districts.
