Athens City Schools Superintendent Carl Martin says negotiations Wednesday produced a tentative agreement with non-teaching employees of the district.
Those workers recently voted down a proposed contract, sending representatives back for more talks.
The workers are represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and they include bus drivers, cafeteria workers and custodians.
Martin says the union will be scheduling a ratification meeting, perhaps next week.
August 20 is the first day of classes.
