After ending the season with a 9-1 record and only losing to Athens, the Buckeyes of Nelsonville-York had high hopes heading in to 2012.

The Trimble Tomcats had a different idea of how this opening game against their rival would go, shocking the Bucks at Boston Field with a 21-14 win.

The game started with a beautiful 96-yard kick return for a touchdown by Marc Carter of N-Y, but the PAT was short, giving Nelsonville a 6-0 lead after just one play.

Trimble answered with a touchdown with 11 minutes left in the second, giving the Tomcats a 7-6 lead.

Konnor Standley, who was primarily seen playing tailback last season, has switched to under center this year.  All three of the Tomcat touchdowns came from Standley who ran with ease through the Buckeye defense.

The Tomcats made their way to the goal line again with 7 minutes left and after just missing the endzone on first down they broke through and got their second touchdown to increase their lead to 14-6.

In the second half, N-Y’s defense locked down the running game and Standley.

Wyatt Deak somehow managed to make a catch off the helmet after a pass from Standley just minutes into the fourth to bring the Tomcats to the N-Y nine-yard line. Later in the drive, Trimble fumbled and NY picked up the ball with 7:30 left in the eight-point game. Trimble’s next touchdown didn’t come until the 4th quarter with yet another touchdown from Standley to bring the score to 21-6.

The Buckeyes made a run late, scoring with 30 seconds left on a Colton Adams pass to Jeremy Warren and the Buckeyes successfully performed the two-point conversion. It was too late, however, and Trimble came out on top with a final score of 21-14.

Looking ahead to next Friday, Nelsonville-York will next take on Newark Catholic as Trimble takes on Wahama at home.
