Ohio University Athletics announced Thursday that Frank Solich, the Bobcats head football coach, has signed a five-year contract extension.

The new deal includes a base compensation of $370,000 per season with retention bonuses of $50,000 to be received each year through the termination of the contract upon the completion of each season. The deal also states that Solich "shall receive $15,000 in conjunction with the University's designated show/apparel contracts." Solich’s extension will ensure that he is on the sidelines of Peden Stadium through June of 2017.

Solich was first signed by Ohio in August of 2005. This amended agreement marks the fourth time Ohio University has extended Solich since the original agreement. He re-signed for the first time in 2008 after compiling a 22-18 record his first four seasons, then again in 2010 after a 9-5 season that culminated in a loss to Marshall in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl. And after consecutive winning seasons and Ohio's first ever bowl win, Ohio Athletic Director Jim Schaus felt the need to add five more years to Solich's tenure.

"There is no better college football coach in the country than Frank Solich," said Schaus after the announcement was made Thursday.

Solich, entering his eighth season as Ohio's head football coach, has compiled a 50-40 record, earned three MAC championships and taken Ohio to four bowl games.  He is the third all-time winningest coach in Ohio history. Solich is coming off of his best year as Ohio’s coach after recording a 10-win season, a MAC East Division Title and a Famous Idaho Potato Bowl victory in 2011. The 10-win season was the first for Ohio since 1968.

Solich has accomplished great feats with individual players as well, coaching 51 All-MAC players and four All-Americans. He was also named the MAC Coach of the Year in 2006.

Solich’s first home game as the newly extended head coach of the Bobcats will be Sept. 8 vs. New Mexico State at Peden Stadium. Ohio opens the season this Saturday at Penn State in a nationally televised game on ESPN that kicks off at noon.
