For the fourth time in as many years, Ohio was defeated by Miami (Ohio), this time by a score of 1-0 at Chessa Field in Athens. The loss marks the Bobcats’ first home loss of the season and it dropped their record to 6-5 on the year (1-2 in the MAC).

Both defenses were dominant in the first half, with Ohio managing only one shot on goal, Miami had two. The Bobcats played the Redhawks strong through an increasingly physical game, and despite the fact that both teams had several good opportunities to score, the first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

Ohio junior goalkeeper Mattie Liston was brilliant, repelling attempt after attempt by the Redhawk offense.

Liston’s nine saves would leave her with a 90 percent save percentage. In the 76th minute, Miami senior forward Jess Kodiak scored off a rebound off of Liston’s ninth save of the match.

The Bobcats would not be able to overcome the Redhawks 1-0 lead.

“The ball has to get through 11 people to score, so it’s not one person’s fault,” said Liston. “I think something we can work on for Sunday is to come out stronger … to really be a first 15 minutes team, and to really pressure the other team early.”

The Bobcats look to rebound and begin another home winning streak on Sunday, Sept. 30 against Ball State.
