A Wheelersburg man wanted for a string of burglaries is in jail after Scioto County sheriff's deputies find him hiding in a mattress.

Officers say Matthew Dawson, 34, is responsible for a rash of burglaries in five of the county's townships that took place over the past two weeks.

Deputies searched a home Friday in Sciotoville and found Dawson hiding inside a circular cutout in a mattress.

Officers arrested Dawson without incident and charged him with burglary, breaking and entering and grand theft auto.

Investigators recently recovered several stolen items including a pick-up truck in Kentucky.

Dawson is being held on $68,000 bond.

He is scheduld to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Tuesday.

Sheriff Marty Donini says more charges will be presented to the grand jury. Anyone with information about these burglaries is asked to call the sheriff's office at 740-351-1091.
