“We’re not taking anybody lightly,” remarked Coach Morris regarding Ohio’s upcoming contest against the No. 17 Arizona Wildcats. After defeating No. 4 Oklahoma in a shootout last weekend, the Bobcat’s took the ice with the same intensity defeating the Arizona Wildcats 4-3.

The Wildcats pulled the trigger early for the first goal of the game when Jason Effertz placed the puck in on goalkeeper Matt Michno’s glove side from the right faceoff zone. He was assisted by Tyler Baumanis and Kyle Ambrosie

Minutes later, the Bobcats shot right back scoring two goals— the first by Garret Williams who found an opening on the far side of the net assisted by Jonathan Gulch and the second by Tyler Harris at the top of the goal assisted by Tyler Pilmore.

The contest was played relatively evenly throughout regulation with Ohio never leading more than a point over Arizona.

A defining difference in this contest was the number of shots taken by Ohio, over ten more shots on goal than the Wildcats.

Another difference was the Bobcats’ ability to take advantage of power play, during which Brett Agnew scored his 5th goal of the season through the five-hole of the Arizona goalkeeper. He was assisted by Tyler Pecka.

Although the number of shots on goal declined each period, the number of penalties only increased as the game went on— the second half ended in a near brawl on Ohio’s goal side.

Even though Coach Morris led Ohio to a 9-0 record and the No. 1 ACHA ranking, he’s still taking the season game by game.

“I think you want to break the season down into smaller increments,” said Morris. “Maybe after the next eight games we’ll have a better idea about what our teams about.”

The Bobcats will continue the Friday-Saturday series tomorrow night with hopes of retaining an undefeated reign and the top ranking in the American Collegiate Hockey Association at 7:30 at Bird Arena.
