A man has been arrested on charges of kidnapping and robbing a Marshall University student at knifepoint.

Huntington Police say the student was getting out of her car about 8:45 Saturday morning at an off-campus apartment complex in the 2100 block of 6th Avenue, when she was approached by 29-year-old Brandon Spurlock, of Huntington.

Officers say Spurlock pulled out a knife and forced the student back into her car. He then made her drive him to several ATM's in the area and forced her to withdraw cash.

After getting the money, police say Spurlock took the student's keys and debit card and left her in her car near Charleston Avenue and Elm Street. She was not hurt.

Shortly after, police say Spurlock used the debit card at several locations. Officers used the transactions to track Spurlock and arrested him in the 1200 block of 8th Avenue.

Police say Spurlock and the student did not know each other.

Spurlock is charged with robbery, kidnapping and forgery.
