Zanesville Theatre Celebrates 50th Anniversary With A Classic< < Back to
The musical Singin’ in the Rain will open at the Zanesville Community Theatre (ZCT) this Friday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m., followed by other performances through Nov. 11.
With a cast of over 30 actors, singers and dancers and an orchestra of 14 area musicians, Singin’ in the Rain is the second production of ZCT’s 50th anniversary season.
The musical is being directed by Jan Smith with Sheryl Wise serving as both musical director and choreographer. Phil Palmer is the producer for the production.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the classic MGM film. The stage production follows that story line and includes much of the well-loved music from the movie.
The cast includes Matt Harper as Don Lockwood, 1920s film star extraordinaire; Steven Hendershott as Cosmo Brown, Lockwood’s longtime friend and piano accompanist; Cindy Houpt as the silent film star Lina Lamont; Jillian B. Von Gunten as aspiring actress Kathy Seldon; Nathan Kerr and Ethan Wigal as the young Don and Cosmo; Dave Kerr as studio head R.F. Simpson; Steve Campbell as the beleaguered director Dexter; and Matt McNabb as Dexter’s assistant, Rod.
Sid Phillips is played by Matt Swingle; Zelda, confidant of Lina’s, is played by Bambi McConaha; Michelle Robison is seen as Dora Bailey, the 1920s version of a red carpet interviewer.
Scott Robison plays the studio’s sound engineer; Emily Stevens and Cary Underwood are the wardrobe mistress and hairdresser to Miss Lamont. Aara Wise plays Don’s vocal coach and Lina’s vocal coach is played by Laurel DuBeck.
Other featured players include Chet Coleman as the policeman; Ari Detty as the third director; Mackenzie Clayton as film star Olga Mara; Mollie Baker as the starlet; and Sierrah Archibald as the maid. The featured dancer and featured singer will be played by Terri Oakley and Jodi Kerr Stauss respectively.
Also featured in the production are members of the Dancing Divas: Keely Ledebur, Kelly Mott, Tere Barclay, Sharon Rodocker, Christy Swope, Paula Frank, Leanne Bader-Mock, Debi Grubb, Erin Beane, Ann Agin, Debbon Kappes, Shay Morgan, Susie Morgan, Erin Forshey and Trudy Cultice.
