Athens County sheriff's deputies removed an anti-fracking sign from the overpass located at US Route 33 Strouds Run/ Peach Ridge Monday morning.

Sheriff Patrick Kelly dispatched two deputies, Lieutenant Steve Sedwick and Deputy John Kulchar to remove the 20-foot banner that was drapped over the side of the bypass.

Kelly says that his deputies arrived in the early morning around 6:15 a.m., just moments after the banner had been placed above the overpass.

The banner was attached to cinder blocks on top and had jugs of water secured to the bottom of the sign, said Lt. Sedwick.

Sedwick also said that the sign was hanging low enough that a semi-truck could have easily hit the sign, causing damage to the vehicle or even consequently caused an accident.

There are currently no suspects in the case.
