Ohio Swimming and Diving is in position to compete for the Zippy Invitational trophy after a strong second-day performance in Akron, Ohio.

Addison Ferguson, Anastasia Bocharnikova, Deidre Geroni and Lauren Funk started the night off with a huge victory in the 200-yard medley relay claiming 64 points in the process. Ohio touched the wall almost two seconds ahead of the competition, finishing in a time of 1:43.53.

Ferguson, a freshman, also took 3rd place in the 100-yard butterfly and 1st in the 100-yard backstroke to cap off her impressive day.

The 100-yard breaststroke also saw four Bobcats in the top 20, albeit none of them within the top nine. Megan Davis took 10th in the event, followed by Bocharnikova in 17th, Funk in 18th, and Tori Bagan in 19th.

Ohio flexed its muscles in the 3m diving finals, snagging three of the top four spots in the event. Haleigh Bartlett took 2nd, Mary Hillstrom 3rd and Morgan Srail 4th.

The diving team continued its strong performance on the season, proving to be an intricate part of Ohio’s success.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team took 3rd place to cap off the night. The top three finish was good for 54 points.

Ohio finished the day with 898 points, while Toledo sits atop the leaderboard with 1,184. The Bobcats will need to stage an impressive comeback Sunday night in order to overtake Toledo and win the Invitational.
