One of the world's top indie-rock bands and a legendary folk singer-songwriter will grace the main stage at next year's Nelsonville Music Festival.
Grammy-winning acts Wilco and John Prine will headline the 2013 fest, being held May 30-June 2 on the Hocking College campus.
Word of the announcement spread quickly overnight on social media, according to Stuart's Opera House Marketing and Promotions Coordinator Brian Koscho.
"I think it's been pretty well received...there is a lot of excitement which is good," he said. "I think both Wilco and Prine fit in with this festival perfectly."
Many other performers will be announced in the coming months, but those confirmed include: southern punks Reigning Sound; alternative-folksters Cotton Jones; the Nuggets-inspired psychedelia of Wooden Indian Burial Ground; Columbus R&B/soul group Nick Tolford & Company; and The D-Rays and County Pharaohs, both from Athens.
The announcement was made Saturday night during the Halfway to Nelsonville Music Festival Party at Rollerbowl Lanes in Athens (see photo slideshow).
Since 2005, the three-day festival has hosted such acts as The Flaming Lips, Willie Nelson, Iron and Wine, Neko Case, Loretta Lynn and Yo La Tengo, as well as numerous regional and local bands.
Produced by Stuart's Opera House, the fest features three music stages, art and food vendors, information booths, kids' activities, camping and more.
