The Buckeye Trail Association is going to use a $77,000 state grant to protect the Buckeye Trail.

The grant is from the Clean Ohio Trails Fund and is for purchasing 40 acres of land that will protect nearly a mile of the trail in Vinton County.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says the purchase will also protect "a historic 1839 log cabin on the property and access to 3.5 miles of existing Buckeye Trail."

The Trail Association is required to provide a 25% funding match for the project.
