The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday that D.J. Cooper has been named MAC East Division Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the first time this season.

Cooper receives the honor after averaging 16.0 points, 12.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds in the Bobcats’ two games last week. Cooper also contributed defensively with 2.0 steals a game.

Ohio went 1-1 last week, losing to Massachusetts but bouncing back to defeat Maryland-Eastern Shore. Against UMass, Cooper scored a season-high 23 points, along with 10 assists and seven rebounds. It was the third time he achieved a double-double this season. Defensively, Cooper held Chaz Williams, who has scored in double-digits every game this season, to only nine points.

The senior point guard also broke the conference career assist record of 769. He currently has 787 career assists.

Cooper failed to score in double-digits against Maryland-Eastern Shore but matched his season-high in assists with 14. He only shot the ball five times in 23 minutes, as the Bobcats won, 93-57.

Cooper and the Bobcats will return to the court this Saturday, as they travel to Norman, Ok. to face the Oklahoma Sooners. Ohio will be looking for their first road victory.
