A Vinton County man is in jail on an attempted murder charge after he allegedly beat his estranged wife.

Vinton County Sheriff Shawn Justice says Thomas Jones, 36, of Hamden, went to the home of his wife Wednesday and assaulted her.

The 37-year-old woman suffered blunt force trauma to the head, neck and face. No word on her condition.

Justice says Jones is also charged with felonious assault.

Two children were home at the time of the alleged attack.

They are in a family member's care.

Jones was taken to the Southeast Ohio Regional Jail and his bond was set at $250,000.
