Teens Charged In Old School Building Theft< < Back to
Three teenage boys from the Chauncey area are accused of entering the old Chauncey Elementary School and stealing electronic equipment.
Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly says his deputies received a complaint Wednesday that the Athens Meigs Educational Service, which is housed in the old school building, had been entered.
Several laptop computers and a number of iPads had been stolen.
A deputy at a residence on an unrelated case noticed five batteries laptop batteries and later uncovered the computers.
A 12-year-old confessed that he, a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old had gotten into the school in late December through an unlocked window.
He told officers he planned to sell the equipment on E-bay.
Kelly says the three have been charged with breaking and entering and released to their parents.
