After scoring a career high 23 points, and helping her team to a 68-62 road win over Xavier, Kiyanna Black was named MAC East Player of the Week by the league office.
Black shot 50 percent from the field on Saturday in the Cintas Center and was 3-4 from behind the arc. She also grabbed five rebounds for the day.
Her 23 points more than doubled her season average, and was the highest point total by any member of the team throughout 12 games this season.
Black currently leads the team, averaging 11.7 points per game.
The strong performance against Xavier was not the first for the young Bobcat. The freshman from Columbus, Ohio, scored 21 points in Ohio's loss to the University of Massachusetts earlier this season.
Ohio is back at home on January 10 to kick off conference play against Akron.
