The Athens Lady Bulldogs gave the undefeated Jackson Ironladies quite a run Monday night, however Jackson would keep their goal of perfect season alive with a 56-51 win.
Athens got another stellar effort from sophomore Dominique Dosek who scored 24 points and nailed four three pointers. She would be the only Lady Bulldog to reach double figures as Jackson dominated the paint all game.
Ironlady center Lydia Poe scored 17 points and played stellar defense down low to anchor Jackson. Madison Rideout added 11 points to round out the top scorers.
Athens held a 16-11 lead after one quarter, however Jackson would take control shortly after. The Ironladies led for most of the second half, however Athens made sure that the deficit remained manageable. A few missed opportunities by the Lady Bulldogs late kept them from making a comeback.
Athens will look to avenge their second loss of the season Thursday when they play Alexander.
