The 2012 Academic All-MAC Football Team was announced earlier today, with two Bobcats receiving the nod for the honor, and another six taking an honorable mention spot.

After calculating votes of athletic representatives from MAC schools, 38 MAC athletes were placed on the All-MAC team, based on two main criteria: a 3.20 GPA or higher and participation in at least fifty percent of all contests.

Neal Huynh, a senior defensive lineman, who is studying health service administration, and JD Bales, a redshirt senior offensive lineman, currently studying mechanical engineering, had a 3.2 and 3.6 GPA, respectively. This is the first time either of them have received the award. Huynh was also named to Third Team All-MAC Defense at the end of the regular season.

The remaining Ohio players who were not voted to a first team selection include safeties Nathan Carpenter and Josh Kristoff, wide receiver Chase Cochran, defensive lineman Antwan Crutcher, tight ends Derek Roback and Jordan Thompson, and kicker Matt Weller.

Toledo led all schools in Academic All-MAC selections with seven, while Northern Illinois boasted six selections. Akron led all schools in the honorable mention category with 11 players.
