The Belpre Lady Eagles defeated the Trimble Lady Tomcats soundly Tuesday night with a 66-44 victory. Sierra Barker led the Belpre charge with a game-high 20 points along with five rebounds. Belpre’s Katelyn Hughes added in 16 points while being a defensive force with five steals.
Although the final score may not describe it, the Lady Tomcats were initially a tough test for the Lady Eagles. After an 18-15 Belpre lead following the first quarter, Belpre was able to close out Trimble with a 48-29 run.
Although the Lady Tomcats were handed a tough loss, there were many bright spots. Sophomore Tia Altier delivered an outstanding performance for the Lady Tomcats, falling one board short of a triple-double. While scoring 11 points, Altier was able to dish out 10 assists and grab nine rebounds.
In addition to Altier’s tremendous effort, freshman Nikki Kish led the Lady Tomcats with 14 points and five rebounds. With the lost, Trimble falls to 6-14. Even though it’s been a tough season for the Lady Tomcats, the youthful Altier and Kish showed a promising future in the next few years to come.
Belpre improves to 13-6 with the victory and will travel to Wahama on February 4. Trimble will travel back home to host Eastern on the same date.
