The Ohio men’s golf team started their week in Okatie, S.C. with a bang when they defeated Big East opponent DePaul with a 4-1 victory.

The name of the game was match play and all five players were able to at least half their matches and four of those players went as far as to win their matches. Freshman Brad Burgess and senior Michael Lamping kept the lead throughout their matches, and each managed to mark up a win and gain a point for the Bobcats.

Junior Connor Coldwater and freshman Mike Engelman used the back nine to their advantage. Coldwater played steadily and used the back nine to cinch his match. Engelman turned his match around and managed to come back from a four-hole deficit to win four holes and halve his match. Senior Byron Firestone was also able to half his match.

The Bobcats will now make the quick trip to Hilton Head, S.C. to play in the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. The event will take place Feb. 18-19. This will be the first stroke play event of the season and the ‘Cats will look to make a strong showing to set the tone for the rest of the season.
