Athens Council Votes To Approve Far East Side Rezoning

The Athens City Council approved the re-zoning of part of the Far East side.

Members voted 6-1 Monday night to change the zoning of the area between East State Street and Jacob Street to only allow single-family homes.

Five parcels of land owned by Good Inc. will be allowed to remain under the previous R-2 zoning which would allow duplexes to be built.

Existing duplexes in the area would be grandfathered into the zoning changes.
