A technical flaw in a petition is delaying efforts to try to give Ohio students the right to pray in school.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine rejected the petition Thursday because of the flaw. That will delay efforts to put a proposed constitutional amendment before voters statewide.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that the petitions were rejected because they did not include the language of the proposed constitutional amendment and summary, and did not contain the signature of a circulator who must attest to witnessing signatures.

DeWine's office did not review the 1,646 individual signatures submitted to his office last month for certification.

The amendment is being pushed by a group called the Coalition to Return Prayer to Our Public Schools.
